The second season of Oshi No Ko got into what the progress of creating a 2.5D play is, Aqua feeling like he could move on from his revenge plan, and Ruby started a revenge plan of her own after finding Sensei (Aqua’s old body) dead body hidden in a cave. In Season 3, we get to see how Ruby goes hunting for the man behind Sensei and Ai’s murders, and ultimately, Aqua returns to the road to revenge.

Probably the biggest thing in this season is the difference between the two people’s tactics. Aqua is coming at this with the analytical, calculating skills of an adult doctor. Ruby is a teenage girl, about the age now she was when she died. So, Ruby takes the tactic of her mother – she puts on a false face to disarm people, to advance her career so she could get close to her father. It makes for a great contrast, once Aqua feels out what Ruby is up to, and realizes that his father is still alive.

Probably what makes this all come to the head is the form that Ruby’s revenge ultimately becomes – a movie that tells his mother’s story, and outs his father as the mastermind of her murder, so he can draw his father out and kill him.

This is very clearly building up to the conclusion – the manga has ended, and I know how it goes. While that execution isn’t necessarily great, the way the animation has presented the story, even parts I don’t necessarily like, has been done so well that I really want to see how the animation does this. The anime feels like a work where the creators, even after the manga has ended controversially, love this story and want to tell it with style and flair. I look forward to seeing what Part 4 looks like.
